Facile win for Bangladesh against Afghanistan

All-round display by Mehdy Hasan Miraz highlight of low scoring match

October 7, 2023: The beautiful Dharamshala ground could not entertain the crowd for an entire 100-over match in the first da match of the ICC Cricket world cup.

Bangladesh who won the toss and opted to bowl first, were quickly into business after Afghanistan made a good start with Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz adding 47 runs for the opening wicket. .

Barring Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who top-scored with 47, the rest of the Afghans did not make much of an impact. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked six wickets triggering a collapse that saw Afghanistan bowled out for 156 in 37.2 overs.

Chasing the modest target Najmul Hossain Shanto with an unbeaten 59 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, following his 3 for 27,  scoring 57 saw Bangladesh achieving the target in just 34.4 overs.

Pure Cricket panel take

While Bangladesh weren't tested much in their opening encounter, they will have to be wary of the chances provided by their opponents, which may be not be the case in their next matches.

Afghanistan on their part need to improve on their fielding, which was woefully out of sorts, and also the batting to give their star bowlers a chance to make an impact in the matches ahead.
