Malan and Topley star in England's 137 run win over Bangladesh

Match 7: England vs Bangladesh - Review

October 10, 2023: Defending champions England put their first match huge loss behind them to beat Bangladesh and brought back the Net Run Rate into positive at Dharamshala.

Left arm seamer Reece Topley playing in place of Moeen Ali picked up 4 wickets for 43 and ensured that Bangladesh didn't pose much of a challenge to the imposing English score. Barring opener Litton Das and veteran wicket keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored half centuries, Bangladesh batsmen failed to match up to the English attack and folded for 227 and losing by 137 runs.

Put into bat, England's top order went hammer and tongs at the Bangla bowling with Dawid Malan scoring 140 in 107 balls and was involved in two century-plus partnerships with half centurions opener Jonny Bairstow (52) and Joe Root (82). England looked set for a score of 400, but eventually finished with score of 364-9, with some later order flurry of wickets. Right arm offbreak bowler Mahedi Hasan was the pick of the Bangla bowlers with 4 wickets and Shoriful Islam picking 3.

Bangladesh, after their two matches in cool Dharamsala travel to the hot and humid Chennai for their next match against table-toppers New Zealand on Friday Oct 13th, while England play Afghanistan in Delhi on Sunday Oct 15th.
