South Africa and Sri Lanka - a battle of near equals!

Match 4 - South Africa vs Sri Lanka - Preview

October 7, 2023: A striking similarity between Sri Lanka and South Africa, coming to the tournament is the injury. South Africa will be without the service of their express pacer Anrich Nortje and all-rounder Sisanda Magala, while the Sri Lankans will miss the services of their star spinner Wahindu Hasaranga and the pace duo of Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Madhushanaka.

Cricket returns to the national capital, which has always helped the spinners. South Africa possesses Keshav Maharaj and Shamsi among their ranks; Srilanka has Maheesh Theekshana, who would use all his IPL experience to come in handy along with the promising Dunith Wellalage.

In the batting department, skipper Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock are expected to give SA, a strong start. The presence of Henrich Klassen, whose brand of cricket is widely appreciated, adds the much-required spice to the team while the ever-bankable David Miller dons the familiar role of a finisher. Aiden Markram’s resurgence with the bat and his spin could come in handy at some point during the tournament.

Sri Lankans on the other hand, have the talented Kusal Mendis and the experienced Dimuth Karunaratne, whose recent return to the ODI set up could prove to be a vital cog in their batting. However, their main concern would be the lack of runs from Pathum Nissanka and Skipper Dasun Shanaka, who have had a poor time, leading up to the tournament.

The momentum is definitely with the Proteas as they come to the tournament with a 3-2 win over Australia in the 5-match ODI series.
